The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a federal program designed to improve access to dental care for Canadians who don’t have private dental insurance and have a household income below $90,000. This plan helps reduce financial barriers so individuals and families can get the dental treatment they need.
At Global Dental Office, we proudly support the CDCP and welcome both new and existing patients who are eligible under the program.
To qualify for the CDCP, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
Visit the Health Canada website for detailed eligibility information and updates.
The CDCP is rolling out in phases. Currently, the following groups are eligible:
All other eligible Canadians will be able to apply starting in 2025.
For questions about eligibility, you can call the CDCP information line at 1-833-537-4342, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. local time.
Applications are submitted directly through Health Canada. Once your application is approved, you’ll receive a welcome package from Sun Life, the program administrator. This package includes your coverage start date and a membership card, typically within three months of applying.
The CDCP helps cover a wide range of dental treatments. While it is not a free dental care program, it significantly reduces costs based on your household income:

Note: Some treatments may require prior approval based on your oral health history and dental provider’s recommendation.
If you are enrolled in other dental programs such as:
…the CDCP will generally be considered your primary coverage, with other programs coordinated accordingly.
Because not all treatments are fully covered, we recommend discussing your expected costs with our dental team in advance.
